Getting help with skill capping
Is it unsportsmanlike to ask higher levels to kill something for me to acquire my own needs? ;3
I was thinking of gathering a party to go hunt the Marobeh Sharptail to basically capture the elite skill Wounding Strike for myself. |

You could just pin the henchmen and let them do all the work.

no...it isnt...
but gw isnt teh most pug-friendly game around so good luk actually tryin to find a party for that best thing to do is ask a friend or guild/alliance member oh and also try to ask in a way that doesnt sound that selfish i.e. asking if they need to cap an elite in the area too that way the run benefits everyone rather than them simply helping u out Last edited by snaek; Nov 30, 2008 at 08:43 PM // 20:43.. |

Not really, but just get henchies. No one's going to venture out to do something for you that you could have soloed if you were able to, as one boss is quite lame...

Dude omg if your guildies won't help you then go find yourself some new ones cause it takes 5 seconds to capture an elite skill. I will help you if you pm me in game at Melony Songbringer (add it to friends and pm me on whatever character I am on). I am only going to be on untill about midnight tonite(about 30 minutes from now) then I have to go to bed cause I have class tomorrow morning. I should be on around 11:30pm tomorrow if you haven't capped it by then or still haven't caught up with me....BTW Eastern time.
Edit: @ everyone who says try to ask in a way that won't just benefit you try to make it a group thing to help everyone. If he asks guildies/alliance mates and they say no simply because they don't need the elite/can't be bothered to help then they are selfish ignorant gw's players. If someone is in your guild/alliance then you should help them if you can. That is the whole reason of being in an alliance/guild. Last edited by Songbringer; Dec 01, 2008 at 04:27 AM // 04:27.. |

I hate to ask, but considering that you only started playing a couple of days ago and have also only recently decided to make a dervish, have you even gotten close to Vehjin Mines in order to cap that elite?
Cause while its ok to ask for help killing some thing, its a different matter when those helping need to get you almost a third through NF just to do it. |

its always great for him to try it on his own for the first time, as its the best way to learn. So many new players now go for Fast Food GW. Fast this, fast that, run this, run that, help me here, there, everywhere. What this causes is their own level of understanding and skill of/in the game will not be able to match up with certain harder missions in the later part of the campaign, much less elite areas.
Disagree with the guy that says everyone should help else they are selfish. Helping too much, you'll be breeding another parasite that can't live without help. |

A general rule of thumb: if you're asking others for something that you want (a dye, a capped skill, a mission, etc.) there should at least be a genuine reason for your needing help - are you truly stuck with a quest? A particular boss giving you trouble? If you're simply trying to mooch off others because you are too impatient to do the work (different from being lazy) then get a grip and suck it up for a bit.
Nothing is more irritating than guild members that ask for things they haven't legitimately tried to do for themselves. |

I play with guildmates because it's more fun than playing alone, not necessarily because I need their help (nor do they need mine). |

DarkFlame, I remind you that a fellow has been so kind to give me the account with around 5 level 20's. One of them is level 14 and it has gone quite far throughout the game. ;3

I don't mind helping a guildie cap a skill or helping him with a tough mission. I dislike the ones that ask for help on every single mission they get to. I'd rather take an hour to show them the proper use of skills. Explain their attribute selections. Explain armor runes and weapons. And then send them off on the mission by themselves to attempt it. I also agree with what nkuvu is saying. It's boring to do stuff with heroes and henchies alone. I'd love to have a guildie along, but in that case I don't spam guildchat with "Please help me with this mission!!" Instead, I'll say, "I'm gonna do XX mission. Anyone else need it or want to come along?" I'm much more willing to join people that ask in that way too, rather than the ones that ask to be run thru. |

And if you are stuck for help in capping a skill, there is always the Services section of Ventari's.
You seem to have pushed some buttons with your question. Basically, it is not selfish to ask for help with anything in the game. But the response you get may vary.
